How to open your coffee bag and keep your beans fresh

You’ve just received your LG's coffee order and wonder how to open the coffee bag packaging the right way. You’re also curious on how to reseal the bag so that your coffee retains its freshness. If that’s the case, we have the answers!

In this blog post, we’ll outline how to open our coffee bags and reseal them neatly, to ensure your coffee does not go stale too quickly, keeping its freshness for as long as possible.

Ziplock style resealable coffee bags

At LG's coffee, we use "ziploc" style coffee bags with one-way valves. This allows you to remove the air completely in between openings and ensure fresh coffee for longer.

One-way valve protection

The main enemies of coffee beans are, oxygen, light and temperature. By using our resealable bags, you greatly limit its exposure to oxygen and light. The valve on the front of the bag is essential in helping coffee age properly. It allows the CO2 expelled by the beans to exit from the bag, without allowing any oxygen from coming in.

Step-by-Step to open your coffee bag

1. To open our coffee bags grab the left side of the notch and slowly tear across the extent of the bag. Gently pry the bag open to reveal the coffee resting inside.

2. Once you filled your coffee grinder, make sure to push all the oxygen out of the bag before closing the coffee bag with the zipper. It is absolutely critical to do this every time you open and close your coffee bag.

3. Finally, regarding the temperature, it is a good idea to keep coffee at around 15 degrees Celsius (59 Fahrenheit) and away from the light. You should NOT store your coffee bag in the freezer or the refrigerator. Keep it away from any source or heat, such as your coffee machine and oven. Room temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius (68 Fahrenheit) is fine.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and as always, buy your coffee freshly roasted (as we do at LG's coffee) and keep it sealed to enjoy the best coffee experience!

Have a good cup!
